Description

The Audit Logging Jobs allows the administrator to create, manage and edit all auditing tasks for any BBj database. All audit data will be logged to an audit database.

Audit Logging Jobs

Manages configured Audit Logging Jobs by presenting each job’s name, processed-through timestamp, and current status, providing a clear operational view for monitoring ongoing audit data collection activities.

Audit Logging Jobs Settings

Column Description
Name The audit logging job by its assigned name for administrative reference.
Processed Through The most recent timestamp through which the audit logging job has successfully processed.
Status The audit job’s current operational state.

Audit Database / Log Viewer

Clicking the Examine Data opens Audit Database/Log Viewer. The pane provides a detailed interface for filtering and reviewing recorded audit log entries using database, file, user, operation type, and date-range criteria.

Settings Description
Log Database The specific audit log database used to filter and retrieve matching audit entries.
File Filters audit log results to entries involving a specific audited file path.
User(s) Identifies which audit-log users are included in the search criteria. Clicking the ellipsis button opens the User Selection dialog, where available users can be checked or unchecked. Confirming the selection with OK updates the Users field with the chosen entries.
Operation Types(s) The audit operation types included in the query filter. Clicking the ellipsis button opens the Operation Types dialog, where available operations appear as a checklist. Then select one or more operation types, confirm the selection by clicking OK, and the chosen types return to the Operation Type(s) field as a comma-separated list for filtering audit records.
Start Date Defines the earliest date and time used to include matching audit log entries in results.
End Date The latest date and time used to stop including matching audit log entries in results.

Audit Database / Log Viewer: Column Settings

Column fields present detailed attributes of each audit entry, enabling users to review timestamps, users, files, operation types, programs, and modes efficiently.

Column Description
Timestamp Records the date and time each audited operation occurred, helping correlate user activity, file changes, and system behavior.
User The account responsible for each audited action, enabling user activity across logged operations.
File List of the file(s) in each audited operation.
Operation Type Indicates the specific audited action performed during the operation, supporting precise filtering and review.
Program The BBj program name that triggered the logged audit trail event.
Modes Lists BBj file modes for each operation entry.

Create a New Audit Task

Accessing this process by clicking the icon opens the Audit Job Wizard, enabling users to name the audit job, define an empty root directory, and select the intended auditing target.

New Audit Task Settings

Settings Description
Audit Job Name Audit Job name.
DB Root Directory Clicking the icon opens the directory browser to select a path from the local system, while clicking icon directs user to create a new folder; confirming any choice returns the selected directory to the DB Root Directory field.
Audit a Named Database Instances Initiates auditing for an entire selected database instance rather than individual files or directories.
Audit a List of One or More Data Files and Directories Enables auditing only the explicitly selected files or directories, limiting audit activity to those chosen paths rather than a full database instance.

Select Database

After completing the New Audit Job details, click Next to open the Select Database step, then use the Database Name dropdown to choose the database instance available on the system.

Other Job Settings

After selecting a database from the Database Name dropdown, the user clicks Next, and the wizard advances to the Other Job Settings pane, where rollover options and advisory locking configurations can be adjusted before proceeding.

Settings Description
Rollover Type

Set the frequency when the logging should rollover.

Value Description
None Disables rollover creation for this audit job.
Daily Generates a new audit database every day.
Weekly Creates rollover audit databases on a weekly schedule.
Monthly Produces new audit databases at monthly intervals.
Yearly Creates annual rollover audit databases for long-term tracking.
Rollover Frequency The number of units of measure (Rollover Type) to use to determine next time ro rollover and create a new audit database.
Advisory Locking
  • When checked, uses advisory locking to access targeted files or directories without enforcing mandatory locking rules.

  • When unchecked, opens targeted files or directories normally without applying any advisory locking behavior.

Included Directories and Files

After completing Other Job Settings and clicking Next, the Included Directories and Files pane allows selecting directories and files for auditing, defining monitored sources whose changes are tracked and recorded during job execution.

Lists directories and files selected as audit sources.

Click the icon to open the folder browser, navigate directories, or create a new folder if required. Confirming a directory adds it to the Source list. Clicking the icon opens the file selection dialog, allowing selection of individual files. Selecting OK/ Open confirms choices and displays the selected directories and files in the Source table for inclusion in the audit job. After clicking Finish button, audit job appears in Audit Logging Jobs Pane.

Editing Selected Audit Job

Selecting an audit job in the Audit Logging Jobs list and clicking the icon (Edit Selected Audit Job) opens the job configuration view, enabling review and modification of job details, rollover settings, and included source directories and files.

Settings Description
Rollover Type

Unit of measure to use to determine when to rollover. The frequency of the rollover will determine when a new audit database is created.

Included Directories and Files

When clicked the Included tab lists directories and files actively monitored by the audit job, defining sources whose write and remove operations are captured during audit execution.

Lists directories and files selected as audit sources.

Clicking the icon opens the Browse For Folder dialog, where a directory can be selected and confirmed with OK to add it to the Source list. From this dialog, the icon directs user to create a new directory. Clicking the icon opens the Open dialog, allowing selection of an individual file, which is then added to the Source list after confirmation.

Excluded Directories and Files

Selecting a file or directory in Included section, and clicking the moves it to Excluded. Selecting an item in Excluded section and clicking the restores it to Included.

Vale Description
Included Files/ Directories Lists files and directories actively monitored and audited by the selected audit job.

Lists files and directories explicitly excluded from auditing and change tracking operations.
