Inventory Control - Operations Overview

This Operations section contains descriptions of the Inventory Control tasks. A sample of each screen is shown, each field is described, and the operation of each task is explained. Use this section as a reference when using the Inventory Control module.

For a complete understanding of the Inventory Control module, study the Flow of Processing. Also, because the Inventory Control module is integrated closely with the Order/Invoice Processing and Sales Analysis modules, many of the features described here are more meaningful when used in conjunction with those modules.

The tasks in this section are organized according to their order of appearance on the menu in a standard installation of the software. Because you can customize AddonSoftware menus, the appearance and function of your Inventory Control module may vary slightly from the descriptions in the manual. For instructions on how to use menus in the AddonSoftware system, refer to the AddonSoftware Administrator manual.

About the Inventory Control Tasks

Tasks in Inventory Control are grouped into areas of operation. Common tasks, such as transaction and transfer entries, are stand-alone tasks accessed directly from the main menu; tasks that work in concert with one another, such as period-end processing tasks or maintenance tasks, are accessed through an submenu off the main menu.

There are two sub-menus, among others, that give you access to the many reports available for the tracking of inventory. The Inventory Reports Menu contains the many standard reports offered with the module. And the Lotted/Serialized Reports Menu helps in the tracking of lotted/serialized inventory.

Additionally, there are some tasks that have several options available for more complete processing. For example, you can use the Inventory Item Maintenance task to access item detail information and inquire about item history or stocking levels. You select these processes from an option menu.
