Conversion Utilities - Introduction

Converting From Earlier Versions of BASIS Products to PRO/5

BBxProgression/2 and BBxProgression/3 programs must be converted in order to work with PRO/5. PRO/5 data file formats require no conversion.

Once programs are saved under PRO/5, theywill notrun under any other member of the BASIS product family. This also applies to MKEYED files created under PRO/5.

Converting PRO/5 Between Operating Environments

Because of the portability of PRO/5, programs written in PRO/5 can be easily moved between operating environments. Once the correct version of PRO/5 is in your operating environment, a PRO/5 program conversion is not necessary when moving PRO/5 programs and data between supported operating systems.

A common scenario is the movement of programs developed under MS-DOS to the UNIX operating system or a similar environment. A communications package may be utilized to move the files between systems. On some operating systems, such as SCO UNIX, MS-DOS utilities are provided that can read floppy disks written under MS-DOS. In operating systems that have proprietary filesystems, files can be moved with BXSND or the _bundle utility.

If your program code contains system calls, some modification of code may be necessary. It is the responsibility of the applications programmer to determine the necessity of such modifications.
