Installing Visual PRO/5 Versions Under 2.10 — Windows

The instructions in this section apply to PRO/5 prior to 2.10.

During the installation process you are prompted for your Activation Key and Serial Number. This information is printed on the Activation Key and Warranty Registration Card, included in the box containing your PRO/5 software and manuals. You must have this information in order to continue the installation.

After entering the Activation Key and Serial Number, PRO/5 will be decoded and activated for your system. You are then prompted for information about the system printers, plotters, and terminals. This information will be used to build the config.bbx file. Details about the contents of this file and how it may be enhanced can be found in Chapter 3.

System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher (Revision 1.0 only), or

  • Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 or newer (Revision 1.0 only), or

  • Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 or newer, or

  • Microsoft Windows 95

  • 386 or higher processor

  • Hard disk partition with a minimum of 10 megabytes of free space

BASIS Directory

Note that there must be a BASIS home directory on the hard drive. This will make Visual PRO/5 compatible with present and future BASIS installation programs and sharing facilities.

If a BASIS product has recently been installed and there is already a BASIS directory, it will automatically be detected and used. If not, the user will be prompted for the location of the BASIS directory.

Installation Instructions

  1. Insert the media.

  2. Choose Run from the Program Manager's File menu and enter either a:\setup or b:\setup, depending on the drive being used (In Windows 95/98/NT, click on the Start button and then Click on the Run button).

  3. Follow the onscreen instructions.

The default program group name is BASIS International Ltd. (which can be changed during the installation). Visual PRO/5 icons will appear in this group unless a different program group name is specified (any group name can be used). If the name of a program group is specified that already exists, then the new icons will be added to that program group.

Installation Using the Product CD-ROM

To install the PRO/5 Data Server, Visual PRO/5, or the BASIS ODBC Driver from the product CD:

  1. Insert the CD into the drive, or if the product was downloaded from the BASIS ftp site, unzip the self-extracting file into a temporary directory.

  2. Run install.exe to begin the installation, which copies all the necessary files from the distribution media to your system and decompresses them.

  3. Enter your Activation Key and Serial Number at the prompt that appears on the Activation Key and Warranty Registration Card that is included in the box containing your PRO/5 software and manual set. You must have this information in order to continue the installation. After entering the Activation Key and Serial Number, PRO/5 will be decoded and activated for your system. At this point the install.exe program leads PRO/5 to perform the installation for the devices on your system.

Installing the BASIS Product (Multiuser)

To install the PRO/5 Data Server, Visual PRO/5, or the BASIS ODBC Driver from the product CD:

  1. Insert the CD into the drive, or if the product was downloaded from the BASIS ftp site, unzip the self-extracting file into a temporary directory.

  2. Run install.exe to begin the installation, which copies all the necessary files from the distribution media to your system and decompresses them.
