Installing Earlier Versions of BBj - Windows

Follow these instructions for BBj levels 4.x and lower on Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP.

Installation Files and Directories

Installing BBj on Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP requires as little as 3 MB of permanent disk space and an additional 4 MB of temporary disk space for a minimum installation. A full software installation with documentation requires approximately 120 MB of permanent disk space and an additional 70 MB of temporary disk space.

Installing BBj on Windows 2000/2003/XP requires a password-protected local administrator account. Installation without this account and password will fail.

The installation file is named according to the port and release number as shown in the example below. The installation program for Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP has an .exe suffix and is named 2166xxx.exe, where the xxx is the release number. For example, the installation file for a Windows product release 3.01 would be named 2166301.exe.

The 2166xxx.exe is a stand-alone installation program, which can be used in conjunction with installable .jar files. If the installation program is executed without any installable .jar files in the same directory, then only two BBj components will be available for installation; ODBC and JDBC. If the installation program is executed with installable .jar files in the same directory, then those BBj components will be available during the install based on the available .jar files.

The installable .jar files are listed below:

*bbj.jar
*blm.jar
*ddbuilder.jar
*demos.jar
*enterprise_mgr.jar
*gml.jar
*guibuilder.jar
*resbuilder.jar
*thin_client.jar

**c-java_libs.jar
**doc.jar
**netbeans.jar

***webstart.jar

* = These components are automatically selected during the Typical Install when the appropriate .jar files are present.

** = These components may also be installed by selecting them through the Custom Install screen.

*** = The files contained in this .jar file are automatically installed when the webstart.jar file is present.

Before installation, ensure any previous versions of BBj are removed.

To install only the BBj ODBC and JDBC components on a Windows machine:

1. Download the 2166xxx.exe file.

2. Run the 2166xxx.exe file.
