PRO/5 Under the UNIX Operating System - Overview
PRO/5 supports terminals, printers, and plotters under the UNIX operating system. The general provisions outlined in The config.bbx Configuration File apply to all devices.
In general, any device on a UNIX operating system could be shared. Any shared device should have an associated lock file. The lock-file name is specified in the mode field of the ALIAS line. It is a good idea to put the lock file into the /tmp directory so that it can be cleared whenever the system is re-started. This removes the lock file any time the system has to be re-started in the middle of a process.
The lock file protections will not work if a user is running as superuser or "root".
