Technical Notes for PRO/5 Under MS-DOS

Manual Installation

The files on the PRO/5 distribution disks are compressed. They should be installed using the install.exe installation program. If you need to activate and set up PRO/5 manually, execute the command:

act -i pro5u.exe -o pro5.exe -s serialno -k actkey

The config.bbx file may be created using a text editor or you may run the PRO/5 program _install, using the PRO/5 command line parameters listed in the INVOKE.TXT file, to go through an interactive configuration.

Reducing File Corruption

The most frequent cause of corrupted files is improper termination of PRO/5. Any files open at the time the process is aborted may be damaged. If you suspect that this is a frequent occurrence on your system, you may determine which workstation is responsible by placing a different lock file on each terminal's alias line. The file will be created when PRO/5 is loaded and deleted when PRO/5 terminates normally. However, if the last execution of PRO/5 on that terminal was aborted, the next attempt to load PRO/5 will fail with an !ERROR=0, device busy. Refer to Lockbyte Concepts for more information on the use of lock files.
