UNC Information (Universal Naming Convention)
Visual PRO/5 supports Universal Naming Convention (UNC) to a limited degree. The version of the Windows operating system, among many other factors, affects the functionality of UNC and produces varying results.
BBj fully supports UNC, however, there are some considerations that affect functionality.
When running BBj as a service on a Windows NT platform, all of the necessary UNC shares and authentication may not completely reinstate before the BBj Service starts. This may prevent availability of UNC shares. If this occurs, an administrator may choose to run BBjServices as a normal process rather than a service.
To run BBjServices as a normal process, follow the steps below:
1. From Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, Services. Double click on the BBjServices entry and change the Startup type from Automatic to Manual in the Property dialog. Click on Apply.
2. Create a shortcut to the <BBjInstall Dir>/bin/BBjServices.exe and supply a -noservice command line parameter, such as:
C:\Program Files\Basis\bin\BBjServices.exe –noservice
Move this shortcut to the appropriate user's Startup directory so that BBjServices runs automatically each time the user logs in.
