Editing Field and Index Definitions

Selecting Edit under either Field or Index on the main Menu Bar displays the Field Options or the Index Options screen, respectively. The left side of the screen lists currently defined fields (or indices). The area on the right contains the parameters that make up the DD definition of the field or index. To edit the definition:

  1. Use the up and down arrow keys to select (highlight) the name of a field or index. If no fields or indices are defined, proceed to step 2.

  2. Use the left and right arrow keys to select an editing action to perform on the selected field (index).

  3. Choose the selected editing action by pressing Enter or the down arrow key.

Select and choose the editing action in one step by pressing the highlighted accelerator key for the desired action.

The Field and Index Options screens provide the following editing options:

The Add, Change, and Insert options, start the editing operation with the Field or Index name. To change the name or enter a new name (Add or Insert), press Enter or <ACCEPT> to accept the name, update the definition, and proceed to the parameter definitions. To cancel the new name, press <EXIT> before Enter or <ACCEPT>.

To edit the parameters, use the up and down arrow keys, Enter, or the <JUMP> key to move from field to field and enter or edit the parameters necessary to complete the field or index definition. After editing the parameters, press <ACCEPT> to update the definition. Then, choose another field or index, or exit the DD Editor.

Editing can be reversed at any time by pressing <CANCEL>. Successively pressing <CANCEL> steps backward through the menus and eventually exits the program.

The prompt line at the bottom of the screen to keep displays the location on the screen, information about the parameter being editing, and which function keys to use.
