What is the PRO/5 Data Server?

The PRO/5 Data Server is a software program that greatly enhances the performance of PRO/5 and the BASIS ODBC Driver when accessing files remotely through a network. Because PRO/5 examines several portions of files including a series of reads in the header and key areas, it is essential to reduce request and response transmission time. With the Data Server, only the initial request and data actually required are transmitted over the network; all other accesses are performed locally. Therefore, network traffic is reduced, freeing resources for other uses.

The Data Server also reduces the risk of data corruption that occurs when workstations fail. If a workstation fails while accessing a remote file via the Data Server, each connection is automatically cleaned up, shut down, and closed.
